The Peter Young Stakes is the key lead-up to the Australian Cup. Jameka returned to the races with a slashing fourth in the Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes, but she is a horse that often takes a step backwards second-up. The Australian Cup is her target race. The 1800 metres of the Peter Young Stakes could be perfect race for Stratum Star. Stratum Star stormed home late to win the Kingston Town Classic over this trip in December and he will be the fitter horse in the race after scoring a tough win in the Magic Millions Trophy last start. He has a good record at Caulfield and he maps to get a lovely run just behind the speed.
Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) RACE 7
This is one of the most competitive editions of the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes in recent memory. Catchy has looked the goods during her racing career to date and there was plenty of merit in her last start victory in the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude. She ran the quickest last 200, 400 metres, 600 metres, 800 metres and 1000 metres in the race and her performance indicates that she will have no problem running out a strong 1200 metres.
Another horse that will be hitting the line strongly is Pariah. He stamped himself as a horse with talent with his win in the Canonbury Stakes and he ran the best closing sectionals in the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield.
