Analyzing the Best Performing MLB Teams after 3 Months: As the MLB season is almost three months old, certain teams have placed themselves ahead of the pack. However the teams we want to look at are not teams such as the Yankees, who currently lead the AL East with a 41-25 record at the time of this article. Instead it is important for gamblers and investors to analyze the teams who have been making the most money throughout this early part of the season. The Twins, Rangers, and the Dodgers have been the most profitable teams so far and we will take a deeper look on if these trends will continue.
Minnesota Twins: The Twins currently stand at 45-22 and lead the AL Central. Minnesota is 28-9 as a favorite but more impressively they are 16-13 as an underdog. This positive record as an underdog has allowed them to help bettors profit over twenty units over the course of the season. Minnesota leads the MLB in Home Runs, Runs Scored, and Batting Average, and their strong lineup has been the key to their success. Jorge Polanco, shortstop, paces the MLB in hits, average, and total bases and his WAR (Wins above Replacement) of 3.9 is good for fifth in the league. The Twins have one of the deeper lineups in the league as seven players have already hit for double digit home runs. This deep lineup leads me to believe that the Twins can sustain some of this offensive production and paired with strong pitchers like Jake Odorizzi and Jose Berrios they can continue to make bettors everywhere some extra money.
Texas Rangers: The Rangers only have a 3.2% chance of making the playoffs according to Fangraphs.com, yet they have profited bettors over 12 units thus far. The Rangers have only been favoured in 17 games this season, but they have done well in those games going 12-5. Where the Rangers have made the real money is their impressive record as an underdog. Texas plays in what is this year a strong AL West, and they have a strong 22-25 record as an underdog this season. Lance Lynn and Mike Minor make up a solid pitching duo, and the hitting of Elvis Andrus, and Joey Gallo allow the Rangers to put some runs on the board. Texas is 9th in the MLB in On-Base Percentage and has had a top 10 fielding team this year as well. I do not expect Texas to continue to make bettors the type of money it has and beware of this being a case of variation to start the season.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Cody Bellinger is one of the best baseball players on this planet and his torrid pace of hitting to start the season has allowed the Dodgers to once again be one of the premier teams in baseball. Hyun-Jin Ryu has been possibly the best pitcher in the National League and once Kershaw takes that next step back to his excellent form this rotation will only get that much scarier. The Dodgers are serious World Series contenders and the depth and skill of their lineup and rotation will keep them among the best in the MLB for the rest of the season. The Dodgers have only been underdogs in three games so far so bettors will have to be willing to lay the juice to bet on them.
These three teams have been very profitable for bettors so far, but will they be able to keep it up? We expect the Twins and Dodgers to continue this run of profit and play baseball into October, but the Rangers on the other hand should be approached with some caution.
