After an exciting two weeks of NFL football the reality of the brutality of the sport has started to settle in for some teams. We have seen a number of starting QBs go down with injury and this has dramatically changed the odds for many teams. Besides the QBs other impact players such as David Njoku, Michael Gallup, and Tyreek Hill have been sidelined for varying amounts of time and will impact the odds for their games this week.
The four teams who have been hit the worst by injury are the Saints, Jets, Steelers, and Jaguars. All four teams hoped to contend this season and at least make the playoffs. With their starting quarterbacks now injured the season is looking bleak.
The Jaguars going into their Thursday night game a 1 point underdog against a Titans team that was not very impressive in a loss to the Colts last week. With Nick Foles this Jaguars team was supposed to be leading the AFC south, and would have likely been favourites in this game. Losing their quarterback has been a huge blow to the Jaguars and with Jalen Ramsey demanding a trade this team is falling apart.
The Steelers may be the team that is hurt the most by the loss of their star. They now have no Antonio Brown, Leveon Bell or Ben Roethlisberger and their offence is much different than the high octane version that we have seen in the past. They are seven point underdogs against the 49ers, a team that has looked impressive through two weeks. This is a stay away game until we see how the offence works without Big Ben.
The Saints lose Drew Brees with a hand injury and that hurts them a lot. Brees has been the face of this team for a long time and he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The Saints are five points underdogs against a strong Seahawks team this week. Teddy Bridgewater will get the start and he is a strong NFL quarterback who has proven he can win games. Against a strong Seahawks team we will see if he is up to the challenge.
The Jets lose their young quarterback Sam Darnold to mono and we saw last night how that worked out. They managed to only put up three points against the Browns. This Jets offence looks bad and they face the mighty Patriots this week. With a high spread it looks scary but we saw last week the Patriots have no problem blowing out bad teams.
