The NFL Draft is finally here and we are just over 24 hours away from the words, “The Jacksonville Jaguars are now on the clock”. The #1 and #2 pick are nearly solidified with Trevor Lawrence going to Jacksonville and Zach Wilson being the QB for the New York Jets, but the real fun begins at the # 3 pick as the 49ers decide who they want their franchise quarterback to be.
On April 10th, William Hill released odds for who would be selected with the #3 overall pick, which is in San Francisco’s hands after trading up with the Miami Dolphins. Alabama’s Mac Jones opened up as the -225 favorite when these odds were released and the public was starstruck when they saw Ohio State’s QB Justin Fields was the 2nd favorite at +260, followed by North Dakota State’s Trey Lance at +375. The very next week, Justin Fields was edging Mac Jones as the favorite at -130 favorite, but with Lance still sitting at +375.
On April 25th Jones shot back to the favorite at -160, Fields back at +175, and Lance at +230. Jones’s odds went down even more as of today when he went to -240. Trey Lance follows Jones up next for the first times since the opening lines in the second position at +190 while Fields dropped all the way down to +500 after the quote from 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan came out saying it is down to Mac Jones or Trey Lance. Fields being taken with the 3rd overall pick is currently the most bet on wager at William Hill (29%), with Jones (23%) and Lance (22%) right behind him. Jones, however, has 52% of total dollars wagers on him, while Lance (23%), and Fields (18%) are 2nd and 3rd by a substantial margin.

1. Cowboys First Position Drafted: Cornerback (+100)
One of the most popular non-quarterback positions that have been locked in on mock drafts across the board is the Dallas Cowboys taking a cornerback. Jerry Jones has already stated that trading up for Florida TE Kyle Pitts seems very unlikely at this point due to the asking price, and the Cowboys have a gaping hole at their cornerback position. The tough question here is, would it be Patrick Surtain II, Jaycee Horn, or someone else. That is why we are sticking with Dallas just drafting a CB rather than picking the specific player.
2. O13.5 Defensive Players Drafted in the First Round (-120)
Granted this draft is top heavy with offensive players such as: Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Justin Fields, Ja’Marr Chase, Kyle Pitts, Penei Sewell, and others. But, that doesn’t say anything bad about the defensive players listed in this draft. We could see the last 2/3 of this draft being absolutely loaded with defensive players.
3. Draft Position: Micah Parsons U12.5 (+145)
This line is criminally low for one of the top defensive players in the draft. There have been rumors of the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos both being interested in Parsons which are both comfortable under that 12.5 line. Parson’s and he incredible speed along with his ability to rush the quarterback will more than likely lead him to being the first defensive player taken in this draft, and it seems hard to believe that the first 12 picks are all going to be offensive players.
4. First Offensive Lineman Drafted: Rashawn Slater (+250)
This will be between Penei Sewell and Rashawn Slater, and while many wiould believe that this is a lock for Sewell because he is the better “tackle” in this situation, it should be known that Slater can play anywhere on the line and is extremely versatile, so as Sewell has been the more dominate tackle, a team drafting Slater is just drafting a “tackle”. Take the value of +250 on Slater here, as I believe this should be a closer line.
5. Draft Position: Christian Darrisaw U15.5 (-115)
Following up Sewell and Slater is a 6’5″ 322 lb. monster in Christian Darrisaw and teams like the Chargers and Vikings are both currently favored to take an offensive lineman with their first pick and both are in need of an offensive tackle. It’ll be shocking if even one of the offensive tackles make it past the Vikings and pick 14, let alone Christian Darrisaw making it that far.
